The Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair on Hardwood Floors

A quality robot vacuum can make a huge difference in keeping allergens such dust and pet hair under control. However, not all models are created to be the same.

There are a variety of options to choose from for you to choose from, whether you need a vacuum that is pet-specific or a robot to complement your other cleaner.

1. Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge

One of the features that makes the G30 Edge stand out is its ability to map your home with a digital map within the app. This allows it to remember which spaces it has cleaned before and prevents it from returning to those areas which is a major problem with more basic robots that rely on the use of traditional magnetic tape to mark off no-go zones.

The G30 Edge also has other advantages. It has a "Find My Robot" mode that emits loud music until it is located and a directional keypad that lets you manually move the robot. It also comes with an auto return function that sends it back to its charging station when the battery is low which is a crucial safety feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D shape is an impressively capable robot with a plethora of smart features. It cleans bare floors very well, and it climbs on carpets with a high pile easily. The app also offers advanced features, such as boundary lines remote control access while the robot is operating and a variety of other options.

This model is the most recent in a long-running series of robots manufactured by Neato. It is unique because it has a "D shape when seen from above. The design offers a number of advantages, including better corner cleaning and a larger container of dust than most other models. The D-shape design allows the robot to reach under furniture more easily than models that have a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly stop before beginning a cleaning cycle to make use of spinning infrared light to look over and evaluate the area. The i3+ EVO has weaker obstacle avoidance than some of the other robots we tested. It frequently ran into objects like handbags, pet toys and shoes before continuing its route. It also had trouble with coarse kosher sea salt that it did a whirlwind of instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO comes with a variety of features that make it worth the extra cost compared to other Roomba models, such as self-emptying bins and advanced control via the app. You can schedule cleanings and set up custom routines. You can also designate zones that prohibit the robot from entering certain areas. Its intelligent scheduling can suggest additional cleanings during high allergy times and based on your regular routine. The navigational system is not reliable however, and often vacuums in erratic lines, such as diagonals or zigzags rather than parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty XL

This intelligent robot can to trace your home's layout in detail, better than you. It also has two brushes that can be adjusted to different kinds of flooring and avoids getting caught, making it the ideal option for homes with pets. We tried it out in a home with a mix between bare carpet and low-pile flooring and found it to move and clean extremely well, including getting into corners. The vacuum also does a decent job of removing pet hair from carpets, though it doesn't have the same power as our top selections.

However the Roborock S4 Max is better constructed, requires less time to recharge than the Shark, and provides more scheduling and automation features as well as support for no-go zones. It comes with a large trash bin for the collection of messes before they're filled. It can take up to 166 minutes to complete its task however this is quicker than other robots we have tested.

The highlight of this robot is the front-facing camera that lets you check your home's cleanliness using a live map in the app. It's especially helpful when you're trying to find a specific item or if your children spill glitter from your decorations on your floors. 6. Roomba 694

The 694 is better than the majority of its rivals despite the lack of features. It scored a perfect 10 in our cereal carpet test and passed our test for cat litter with just a few fragments. It is less effective on hardwood flooring. Its side brush often scatters large, clinging cereal bits instead of sweeping them away. It also had trouble collecting table salt on a unfinished floor, as lots of grains were slid across the floor.

It allows voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant using an external device (sold separately). It learns your cleaning habits and provides you with a personalized schedule. Cliff Detect and an edge-sweeping brush ensure that it can get into difficult-to-access corners. Dirt Detect sensors alert it to areas that are heavily soiled. It comes with a dust bin that automatically emptys, and it has a battery life of around 60 minutes. The more expensive iRobot j7 has a more sophisticated set of features and is better on all surfaces. It also feels better built and has a bigger dustbin, charges faster, and is able to navigate obstacles such as electrical cords with ease.
