Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre, even in tight spaces.

If you want a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. However, they are susceptible to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New data show that three-wheeled buggies that were the symbol of the noughties that had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, which are more versatile and easier to drive and look fashionable.

The rule is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy ground and rough pavements. With larger wheels front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the double buggy 3 wheels with a newborn and a 3 wheel jogger year old and found that it coped well with cobbles, grass rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push and extremely solid on rough terrain. The tyres, which are inflatable and need to be pumped up occasionally, have built-in suspension. This was very comfortable for my kids.

The size and shape of the seat is a further factor to think about. You will want it to be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline for them to lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have the option of reclining completely, while others allow an adult facing one.

Fortunately, many models come with compact folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

A three-wheeled buggy is easier to maneuver with children. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for difficult terrain like parks, cobblestones, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler. she said: "The Terrain is a pleasure to drive in rough terrain. The swivel wheel in the front was especially helpful." I was also impressed with how well it coped with the kerbs, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or on uneven ground."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy might make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind if your home area is an urban area. If this is a problem then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better option for you.
