WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an Item Level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut also, but is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
