WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrader mod will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Upgrades are items which can be used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool using the help of button, which will show a preview of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item level upgrade upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via various methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade item their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
