WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item upgrade has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader mod upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from NPCs of Item level Upgrade upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via various methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will be less expensive, even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut also, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item upgrader mod reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
