Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the most effective ways to upgrade your gear without relying upon big-ticket drops or trade. This article will teach you how to upgrade your items efficiently.

Upgrades to equipment give a bonus on the item's stats. The amount of bonus varies based on the rarity and strength of the upgrade component.

Components

Upgrade components are the parts that can make your weapons and armor better. You can locate them by destroying enemies, purchasing them from karma vendors, or finding them in items-spheres. You can also salvage them from equipment that has the components, or by utilizing salvage kits of high-end quality, such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when you remove them from an item.

The main function of upgrade components is to allow an item to be upgraded however, they also serve other functions. They can be used to increase the quality of an upgradeable item, or they can be used to increase the amount of experience gained from upgrading an existing weapon or piece of gear. They can be forged to give additional benefits.
